MANILA, Philippines — The impending passage of the so-called “murang kuryente” bill, which seeks to use the P207-billion Malampaya Fund to pay off the debts of National Power Corp (Napocor), will only benefit big corporations, and will not ease the sufferings of consumers from the high cost of electricity, party list group Bayan Muna warned on Saturday.

Murang Kuryente bill gets House nod on final reading

The House of Representatives on Monday gave its green light to a bill that seeks to tap P123 billion from the Malampaya fund to pay the debts of the National Power Corporation (NPC) that is now being charged to consumers’ monthly electricity bill.

MANILA, Philippines – The Senate on Monday approved on third and final reading a measure aimed at reducing the cost of electricity, and three other bills, including one that will institutionalize the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino (4Ps) program.
