For decades, caregivers from abroad have played a critical role in supporting families in Canada. The government has announced that Canadian work experience required for a caregiver to qualify for permanent residence is being reduced from 24 months to 12 months.

On December 15, 2022, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) updated its Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) exemption codes. An LMIA is an opinion from Service Canada that the entry of a foreign worker will have a positive or neutral impact on the Canadian labour market.

The Canadian government has announced meeting its target of 431,645 new permanent residents in 2022. In 2021, the country welcomed over 401,000 permanent residents, the highest number of newcomers in any year in Canadian history, surpassing the previous record from 1913!

Regulations to protect temporary foreign workers in Canada

Canada to extend work permits to family members of temporary foreign workers
