The latest Tesla software update (2019.36.1) has unlocked the full DC charging potential of the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus (SR+). The Model 3 SR+, with this update, has a 170 kW charging peak, up from the previous 100–105 kW peak. This means that the SR+ battery charge rate (C-rate) is now approximately in line with that of the Model 3 Long Range variants, albeit scaled for the different battery size

BMW i3 Is A Perfect Out-Of-Town EV, Smoothly Flowing Through Mountain Roads — BMW i3 vs. The Mountain (Video)

The Model 3 is the standout, Zen-of-zero-emissions electric vehicle that is meeting peoples hopes and wishes straight on. Even though I don’t have a Model 3, I’d agree with anyone singing Model 3 praises. I have ridden in one many times, and I’ve previously written about the expansive back seat experience in a Tesla Shuttle. The praise the Model 3 gets is well deserved

It was the final day of my long-distance travel in the BMW i3 from Southwest Florida to the Appalachians — my journey seeing the sights of 4 states out of the i3’s generous windows as I made my way from charger to charger

Sunshine State To Appalachia In 2015 BMW i3 REx — Day 0 To Day 2

Cynthia Shahan CleanTechnica i3Although day one of BMW i3’s long-distance journey to Appalachia from the Gulf Coast of Florida was documented a bit in an earlier post, I will backtrack a moment to day zero. I don’t have a lot of range in this small electric car. It does have a small gas tank in time of low range to get you to the next charging station, but planning is certainly needed. I had mapped out my route on a MacBook Air, but the computer’s mood (or light) dropped the morning I was to leave the Sunshine State. The screen was black even though it seemed the Mac was running. I took off anyway — with my phone to guide me and the electric car from charging station to charging station

Leaving the Sunshine State i3 Cynthia Shahan CleanTechnica.comTo begin, I want to thank my personal patron saint of long-distance small-EV travel, Zachary Shahan. He plotted my trip for me from charger to charger since my MacBook Air took a hiatus and blacked out on me the morning I left the Sunshine State for the Appalachians in a small 2015 BMW i3 REx. My travel log lost, Zach kept me abreast of each charging location on my phone, and updated them as the trip went along and plans changed. I also found some extra stations with the navigation on the dash of the i

Regional Road Trips More Convenient In A Tesla Than A Gasmobile

Credit to Author: Zachary Shahan| Date: Fri, 30 Aug 2019 03:30:15 +0000

One of the most persistent incorrect assumptions about electric vehicles is that they’re less convenient than gasmobiles. Actually, as long as you buy a decent modern electric car, “fueling up” will be more convenient in many — if not most — cases. As usual, your own personal details matter. There is no single answer for everyone, but there are a handful of truisms that are the building blocks of each personal story

To The Grand Canyon In A Tesla Model S

A friend of mine reached out to me with an incredible story from his friend, Tonto. Tonto went on a summer road trip to the Grand Canyon as a way to celebrate America. His trip was his own way of celebrating our freedom, and what is a better way of doing this than going on the road trip in his American-made Tesla Model

Tesla Model 3 vs. Toyota Camry Cost of Ownership … Range Lost On Parked Model 3 … Tesla Service FTW — #CleanTechnica Top 20

The most popular CleanTechnica articles of the past week were led by (yet another) total cost of ownership analysis comparing the Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Camry. A couple of us here at CleanTechnica had previously published our own 5 year cost of ownership comparisons between these cars, but this one came from Loup Ventures, “a research-driven venture capital firm based in Minneapolis and New York investing in frontier technology.” Other popular stories covered Model 3 range lost while parked, a Tesla service experience, and much more regarding Tesla. Non-Tesla stories included the sprouting EV revolution, a solar-powered Chevy Bolt, Burger King’s Impossible Whopper, clean energy at 1¢/kWh, VW’s EV potential, and much more

A Tale Of Two EVs

Credit to Author: Andy Miles| Date: Sat, 24 Aug 2019 18:27:37 +0000

Gloucester Sth Services - M5It was nearly a year ago that I wrote an article on CleanTechnica about taking a 300 mile journey in a relatively short-range car, the Peugeot iOn, which is capable of only 50 to 70 miles at the absolute most on a single charge. The idea behind it was to say to people, “Look at me doing this. If I can do it in this little car, anyone can make use of an EV for a longer journey, especially a modern EV with 100 to 300 miles of range.” I thought it might give people more confidence to consider getting an EV, knowing it can be used for any journey, and knowing that you do not need 400 miles of range to make an EV practical for everyday use
