Inspection findings published on September 12, 2024, by the South Carolina Governor’s Nuclear Advisory Council revealed a remarkably well-preserved site at the abandoned V.C. Summer Units 2 and 3. Major components, including steam generators, reactor coolant pumps, and diesel generators, were either installed or securely stored, while Unit 2, at approximately 48% completion, featured a containment structure in “excellent” condition. Warehouses filled with critical materials, such as valve assemblies and electrical systems, remained intact and climate-controlled. Despite seven years of inactivity, site facilities—ranging from the turbine hall to the administration building—exhibited minimal signs of degradation, demonstrating significant potential for project revival, the findings suggest.
