The takeaway here shouldn’t be that cleantech firms are high risk and over valued. The takeaway is that unscrupulous people found a way to fleece a lot of investors of a lot of money via SPACs.

There’s a lot of excellent work going on in cleantech, and there are a lot of good investments. But there are also a lot of people attempting to cash in without moving the climate action needle forward. Caveat emptor.

Energy Vault’s tech is not a solution, and while it would work at least for a while, it won’t be cheap, it will have lots of failure conditions and it will be high-carbon.
