A three-man election panel that will supervise the bid to fill up the vacated posts in the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) elections on July 28 has been put up by the Executive Board on Monday in line with a directive from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

In a correspondence to the POC on July 4 and signed by James MacLeod, the IOC Director of Olympic Solidarity and NOC Relations, and Hussin Al-Musalam of the Olympic Council of Asia, the POC was ordered to proceed with a special board meeting on Monday without the four officials who stepped down.

Tolentino pointed out that since Ricky Vargas stepped down as POC president on June 18, the vacancy should be filled within 30 days and that “the latest we can have an election is July 18.”

“We request that the POC coordinate any further steps with the IOC and OCA to make sure that due process is followed, in accordance with the POC Constitution and Olympic Charter,” wrote James MacLeod, the IOC’s director for Olympic Solidarity and NOC Relations and Hussin Al-Musallam, Director General and Technical Director of the OCA in a letter sent to the POC Executive Board dated June 29.
