Louisiana Clean Fuels and Clean Cities Coalition recently teamed up to bring the Clean Fuels Summit to New Orleans. This was an event that landed me in the Harrah’s Casino Hotel by the Riverwalk, where I could hear the blasts from the river cruises nearby. On the evening before the summit, LCF held an awards ceremony where Executive Director Ann Vail honored several partners and businesses that help to advance the nation’s environmental, economic, and energy security by supporting local actions to diversify transportation fuel options

Tesla was ahead of its time when it bet on a proprietary Supercharger network. Now, public EV charging infrastructure is popping up all over the globe. Even McDonald’s is getting in on the action. Gas stations are starting to see the writing on the wall. A few are even converting gas pumps to EV chargers

Parent company PepsiCo, Inc. is replacing the fleet of diesel freight vehicles that service its Frito-Lay plant in Modesto, California with zero-emission and near-zero emission vehicles. Electric utilities are keen on electric vehicles these days — they see them as a future revenue source. Utilities from California to Florida to Michigan are sponsoring the installation of public charging stations, and some are offering rebates to customers for installing home chargers. To date, at least 50 utilities in 25 states have launched or proposed programs to encourage the buildout of charging infrastructure

To begin, I want to thank my personal patron saint of long-distance small-EV travel, Zachary Shahan. He plotted my trip for me from charger to charger since my MacBook Air took a hiatus and blacked out on me the morning I left the Sunshine State for the Appalachians in a small 2015 BMW i3 REx. My travel log lost, Zach kept me abreast of each charging location on my phone, and updated them as the trip went along and plans changed. I also found some extra stations with the navigation on the dash of the i
