Kristine-hit Bicol farmers get P24.4 million in crop insurance payments


MANILA, Philippines — Thousands of Bicol farmers affected by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (International name: Trami) received an initial amount of P24.4 million in crop insurance payments, according to the Department of Agriculture (DA) on Wednesday. The Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC) issued indemnification checks to 2,644 farmers in Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon. PH agricultural output down by 3.7% in Q3 of 2024


Updated on November 6, 2024 at 10:28 a.m. The country’s agriculture production declined by 3.7 percent in the third quarter of this year, pulled down by lower palay (unhusked rice) and hog output, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA). In a report, the PSA said the value of production in agriculture decreased to P397.43 billion from P412.7 billion in the same period a year ago.
