Maynilad: P200M spent to fix 2018 leaks

MAYNILAD Water Services Inc. spent about P200 million in 2018 to repair pipe leaks across its concession area, it said on Friday.
In a statement, the water concessionaire said it had plugged 21,000 pipe leaks, with repairs mostly on secondary and primary lines in the cities of Quezon, Parañaque and Muntinlupa.
The amount is lower than the P260 million it spent to fix 26,792 leaks in 2017.
Maynilad has repaired 356,000 leaks since 2007.According to the water company, leak repairs, which falls under its non-revenue water (NRW) activities, allows it to reduce physical and commercial losses.
“Through continuous leak repairs and pipe replacements, we have managed to renew 57 percent of the water network that we inherited in 2007,” Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez said in the statement.
“Sustained investments in network rehabilitation are essential to ensuring uninterrupted water supply for our current and future customers,” he added.
Besides repairing leaks, Maynilad also replaces pipes and old water meters, focuses on network diagnostics, and establishing district metered areas under NRW.
Maynilad is the agent and contractor of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area.
Certain portions of Manila and Quezon City; Makati City (west of South Super Highway); and the cities of Caloocan, Las Piñas, Malabon, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Parañaque, Pasay and Valenzuela make up this zone.
Maynilad also services the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite province.
