Black Nazarene returns to Quiapo Church after over 21-hour procession

MANILA, Philippines – After over 21 hours since its procession began around 5 a.m. on Wednesday, the image of the Black Nazarene returned to its home in Quiapo Church.

At past 2 a.m. on Thursday, the statue of the Black Nazarene was wheeled into the church, ending the grand Traslacion procession this year.

The moment climaxed when devotees waved white towels inside and outside Quiapo Church. Others raised their hands while chanting in honor of the Black Nazarene.

The iconic image started its procession from the Quirino Grandstand at 5:08 a.m. on Wednesday and traversed parts of Manila’s key streets.

Nearly a million devotees showed up for this year’s Traslacion, according to the estimate of the police.

In 2018, the Traslacion took 22 hours before the image of the Black Nazarene was brought back to Quiapo Church.
