THE family of the slain American woman, whose body was fished out of Pasig River last month, has decided to cremate her remains here in the country, a police official said Thursday.
Senior Supt. Moises Villaceran, Mandaluyong City Police chief, said in a phone interview that a liaison of the US Embassy informed that the family of Tomi Michelle Masters, 23, is planning to cremate her body here in the Philippines.
“Nag-coordinate ang liason ng US Embassy sa funeral parlor at dito na lang daw i-cremate ang cadaver,” Villaceran said.
However, Villaceran said that as of now, it is still not clear if the family of Masters will personally get the ashes or it will be sent to them in the US.
“We are still waiting for the advice from the US Embassy,” Villaceran said in Filipino.
The body of Masters, which was stuffed in a balikbayan box, duct-taped and wrapped in a garbage bag, was fished out of Pasig River on December 23, 2018.
In a follow-up operation a few hours later, suspects Troy Woody Jr., 21; and Mir Islam, 22, were arrested after a Grab driver reported to police about a suspicious box that the duo dumped into Pasig River Sunday morning.
The suspects were later identified as chief executive officers of Luxr Limited Liability Co.
It was also learned that Mir Islam previously served jail time for serial stalking and revealing of private or identifying information about people in the internet (doxxing) and sending police teams to people’s houses (swatting).
Villaceran earlier disclosed the victim had died of suffocation based on the results of the autopsy on the body.
The suspects are currently detained at the Mandaluyong City Police custodial facility where they share a 20-square meter cell with other detainees.
Meanwhile, Villaceran said the body of Masters is still being kept in a funeral parlor in Ermita, Manila. (John Aldrin Casinas)
