THE “Hidden Beach” in El Nido, Palawan was ranked No. 1 among 50 beaches in Asia in 2018, while several other local getaways made it to the list of best beaches in the continent, a Canadian travel agency said.

Flight Network said the Palawan beach won the top rank for its “sheer untouched beauty, remoteness, sand and water quality, annual days of sunshine, and average annual temperature.”

“The wild, vegetation-covered rock formations and crystal-clear waters of Hidden Beach will make you feel as if you’ve been dropped into a movie,” the company said, quoting Sachin Aggarwal of Carlson Wagonlit Travel.

The Hidden Beach placed third in the global ranking of best beaches in 2018 by the same company, after Greece’s Shipwreck Beach in Zakynthos, which was ranked No. 1, and Australia’s Whitehaven Beach in Queensland, which bagged the No. 2 spot.

Thailand secured the second and third spots on the list with its Maya Bay and Railay Beach, respectively.

Other beaches listed were Radhanagar Beach in India (No. 4); Bai Khem Beach in Vietnam (No. 5); Ngapali Beach in Myanmar (No. 6); Pink and Kelingking Beach in Indonesia (Nos. 7 and 9); Altinkum Beach in Turkey (No. 8) and the Dead Sea in Jordan (No. 10).

Eight other Philippine beaches were also listed among Asia’s best, including Guyam White Sand Beach in Siargao (No. 13); Palaui Beach in Cagayan Valley (No. 22); Caramoan Island Beach in Camarines Sur (No. 29); Dahican Beach in Davao Oriental (No. 41); Gumasa Beach in Sarangani (No 45); Kalanggaman Island in Cebu (No. 49); and Paliton Beach in Siquijor (No. 50).

Flight Network said it consulted 600 travel journalists, editors, bloggers and agencies experienced in traveling, including Forbes, The Telegraph, Daily Mail, Yahoo, BBC, The Guardian, and Los Angeles Times, for the Asian ranking.

“Flight Network consulted these travel professionals to rank the best beaches in the world, based on their personal and professional experiences. We received unparalleled insight into the most spectacular beaches on earth,” the company said.

The agency said its “World’s Best Beaches for 2018” was a way of providing a yearend snapshot of the opinion and experiences of the world’s top travel experts.

“This globally recognized list showcases a collection of off-the-beaten-path slices of paradise from every corner of our planet,” the company said on its website.
