After a long and tight battle for the NASFOR 4×4 Championship, Aurora Racing Team’s Jherico Lara was named 2018 Driver of the Year at the Philippine Tough Truck Challenge (PTTC) XVIII staged in Bukidnon on December 9.
The title was only decided when championship leader JR Bartolome of the Land Cruiser Club of the Philippines failed to finish Track A of the very technical and demanding track in Libona, Bukidnon. Lara was only 12 points away from Bartolome going into the last leg.
“I recalled all the hardship I had to go through and sacrifices I had to make including the many times that I wanted to give up,” said Lara after the awarding rites. “When it dawned on me that that I’ve achieved my goal, I realized that it was all worth it. I’d like to thank everyone who never stopped believing in me. Thank you and this is our victory!”
Lara finished with 744 points while Jodax Daquil of 4Wheelers Davao finished second with 686 points. Bartolome dropped to third with 672 points after failing to finish in the last race. Nevertheless, Bartolome grabbed the most number of wins by taking five of the 12 rounds plus the PTTC, that was staged in various parts of the country, from Baler, Aurora, to the last leg in Digos, Davao Del Sur. Lara won two legs, Daquil got one and both placed consistently in the other races.
NASFOR Team honors went to 4Wheelers Davao. The tilt was their fourth championship in a row. They had four racers in the top 10 of the individual title chase with Daquil, Joseph Rodriguez, Reynan Jayme and PTTC winner Michael Cerin, winning two rounds.
This season also saw the best performance of lady racer, Karen Pagquil of Team 199 ORH Pampanga, who finished eighth overall.
The 2018 NASFOR-Maxxis Cup was made possible with the support of Maxxis Tires Philippines, Racetech 4×4 Suspensions, 199 Offroad House, AEG Powertools, FCC Trading, TRE 4×4, ProRock Engineering, ARB, Ride Inc. and Come Up Winch.
The very tough 2018 championship saw six different racers winning the different legs prior to the finals. Bartolome won five, PTTC champion Cerin three, Lara had two, while Joseph Rodriguez, Cesar Daquil and Art Benedict Ong of Ormoc 4Wheelers won one leg each.
