Reigning World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao’s media relation officer Aquiles Zonio said that Adrien Broner’s latest arrest would not affect his upcoming fight against the Filipino ring icon on January 19 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada
“The fight is a go. [Adrien] Broner was arrested for another brush with the law but he was able to post bail. I believe Broner is professional. He knows what is at stake in this fight. So I’m not worried about him. He will show up during the fight,” reads Zonio’s statement posted on philboxing.com on Friday.
TMZ reported on Sunday that Broner was arrested in Broward County, Florida for not appearing in court earlier this month in relation to his December 17 violations among them speeding, driving without license and no registration or proof of insurance.
He was later released on bail.
International matchmaker Sean Gibbons also said that the incident would not affect the fight.
“That was just traffic tickets, no problem,” Gibbons told The Manila Times on Friday via online interview.
