‘Usman’ to make landfall in Eastern Samar; over 20 areas under Signal No. 1–Pagasa

SIGNAL no. 1 remains up over parts of central Philippines as tropical depression “Usman” continues to move towards Eastern Visayas, where it is expected to make landfall later today, Friday, the state-run weather bureau said.

“Usman” may intensify into a tropical storm before it hits Eastern Samar on Friday evening, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

“Usman” was last seen 285 kilometers (km) east of Guiuan, Eastern Samar with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center, and gustiness reaching 65 kph.

It is moving west-northwest at 10 kph.

Signal No. 1 is up over Northern Palawan, including Calamian group of Islands; Camarines Norte, Southern Quezon, Marinduque, Romblon, Catanduanes, Camarines Sur, Albay, Sorsogon, Masbate, including Ticao and Burias Islands; Southern Occidental Mindoro, Southern Oriental Mindoro, Cuyo, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Northern Cebu, including Camotes Islands; Aklan, Capiz, Iloilo,Guimaras, Antique, Northern Negros Occidental, and Dinagat Island.

Cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may be experienced over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, the rest of Visayas, Calabarzon, and Caraga.

Pagasa advised fisherfolks with small seacraft not to venture over the seaboards of areas under Signal No. 1, the seaboards of Northern Luzon, the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, and the eastern seaboard of Surigao Provinces. JOVE MOYA
