MAYON spewed ash plumes on Thursday as it remained under a “moderate level of unrest,” the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The plumes were recorded at 8:17 a.m. and 8:25 a.m. and were seen in the towns of Camalig and Guinobatan.

According to Philvolcs, people may expect sudden explosions, lava collapses, pyroclastic density currents and ash falls in the upper to middle slopes of Mayon during alert level 2.

Philvolcs also advised people not to enter into the six kilometer (km) radius Permanent Danger Zone of Mayon.

Aviation authorities were told to advise pilots not to fly close to the volcano’s summit due to airborne ash and fragments from sudden explosions.
