THE communists will have to strengthen their forces and the movement if they were to seize the urban areas, which is “a matter of time,” exiled Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) Jose Maria “Joma” Sison said on Wednesday.
In an interview over ABS-CBN News Channel, Sison also stressed that the CPP, on its 50th founding anniversary, has become “relevant” and has been leading a “vibrant revolutionary movement,” with its number growing from 80 in 1968 up to the “tens of thousands” joining the organization at present.
He admitted, however, that the CPP has not yet achieved its goal of “seizing” political power in the urban areas although “it is establishing Red political power in the countryside,” which is “advancing” to the cities.
He said that “upon the increase of strength of the revolutionary movement, the cities will become ripe for seizure by the revolutionary forces and by the people.”
“I think it is only a matter of time that the revolutionary movement would be able to advance in terms of armed strengths, advance [its movement] on the city and there is a fast rate of deterioration of decomposition of the ruling system,” he said.
The communist leader, who is currently residing in Utrecht, The Netherlands, also took a swipe anew at President Rodrigo Duterte, saying he has not surpassed any standards and “managed to sneak into power.”
He said Duterte’s assumption to Malacañang “shows very much the degradation and the state of decomposition of the entire ruling system if a mediocre student like Duterte and someone who is only good for being mayor” would become president. DEMPSEY REYES
