Undefeated Australian George Kambosos Jr. said that reigning World Boxing Association welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao is armed with deadly counter-punching skills when he takes on American challenger Adrien Broner on January 19 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Kambosos (15-0 win-loss record with nine knockouts) told The Manila Times Saturday night that Pacquiao (60-7-2 record with 39 knockouts) is a lot more deadlier this time.
“I’m a very, very fast puncher, very explosive, and I have faster hands than (Adrien) Broner. I am a better counterpuncher than Broner. So if Manny (Pacquiao) can deliver more shots and counterpunch than me, he is going to hit Broner all night,” said the 25-year-old Kambosos Jr.
“They call Adrien Broner the “Problem”? Manny is the real problem now.”
Pacquiao and his entourage left Manila for Los Angeles, California via Philippine Airlines on Saturday.
“Everything is good, very good assessment and good camp. We continue to work in Las Vegas and make the job done,” added Kambosos, pertaining to the training camp that started last November 26 in Manila up to General Santos City. “We are going to continue the heavy training in Los Angeles.”
In the last day of sparring session in Manila, Kambosos and Filipino super lightweight Jheritz Chavez sparred for four rounds against the Filipino eight-division world champion.
But Pacquioa skipped the mitts, heavy bags and other training routines.
Kambosos believes that Pacquiao could go higher than 110 percent overall in good condition as the fight gets near without pushing himself very hard in training.
“When we need to rest, we rest. He (Pacquiao) is 40-year-old, so he understands he ain’t young. He knows when to take off and he knows when to push hard. So come January 19, he is going to be 110 percent ready,” added Kambosos.
“We did eight to nine rounds of sparring [overall]. He’s in highs 80s to 90s now.”
Pacquiao, for his part, said there’s nothing to worry about making himself in a very tough condition since there’s still three weeks left prior to the fight.
At the same time, the fighting senator said he would do his best to knock Broner out just what he did against Lucas Matthysse last July 15 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“Gagawin ko ang lahat [to knockout Broner].”
