Cusing, Sermonia lead early winners in PSL Lucena tilt

Diliman Preparatory School standouts Paula Carmela Cusing and Jenn Sermonia bannered the list of gold medalists in the opening day of the 150th Philippine Swimming League (PSL) National Series being held at the Lucena City Sports Complex in Quezon.

Cusing, a veteran of international competitions, posted a time record of three minutes and 1.56 seconds to win the girls’ 15-over 200m butterfly while Sermonia bagged the gold medal in the girls’ 10-year 50m butterfly with 35.47 seconds in the tournament supported by The Manila Times and MX3.

Reigning Swimmers of the Year Marc Bryan Dula (boys’ 11-year 200m butterfly, 2:48.31) and Micaela Jasmine Mojdeh (girls’ 12-year 200m butterfly, 2:29.31) also dominated their respective events as well as Julia Basa (girls’ 12-year 200m butterfly, 3:02.99) and Trump Christian Luistro (boys’ 10-year 50m butterfly, 35.40).

Antonio Parto (boys’ 12-year 100m butterfly, 1:05.68), Jules Mirandilla (boys’ 15-over 100m butterfly, 1:01.86), Xavier Salinel (boys’ 10-year 50m backstroke, 39.72) and Kirsten Dimatatac (girls’ 8-year 50m backstroke, 51.85) also emerged as top finishers in their favorite events.

“A lot of swimmers who won medals in international competitions we’ve joined were from Lucena. It has been a great source of talents and we are always looking forward to discover young swimmers every time we go here,” said PSL president Susan Papa.

The other gold medalists were Marcus Jared Dula, Maja Samosa, Ingrid Lobos, Zajeed Sarmiento, Alberto Parto, Aidepp De Luna, Von Olit, Chloe Laurente, Karl Dimatatac, Rigel Hechanova, Ayeles Mirandilla, Gabrielle Reyes, Kurile Hechanova, Rita Dimaandal, Najia Elmejrab, Yohan Cabana, Josef Munoz, Clara Maligat, JM Rala, Maximus Maligat, Marianne Lopez, Gabriel Del Rosario, Alex Ocampo, Aiden Cuevas, Sophia Garra, Gellert Hernandez, Althea Villapena, Jassvir Singh, Lexx Valdez and Paolo Manlongat.

“We would like to commend coach Virgie De Luna of Quezon Killer Whales for hosting this competition. The fruits of the grassroots development program of the PSL is so evident in this region,” added Papa.
