THE Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) will hand down “soonest” its decision on the bullying incidents involving a junior high school student as parents of one of his victims filed a police report.

In a memo released on Friday night, Fr. Jose Villarin, ADMU president said that the Junior High School Committee on Discipline “met and heard both parties involved.”

“The case shall be decided soonest, and this decision shared with the community,” Villarin said after one of three viral videos early this week showed a junior high school student, a taekwondo gold medallist, throwing punches and kicks at another student who ended up with a bloodied nose.

Villarin vowed to investigate the incident and said that the university did not condone such behavior.

Netizens called on the ADMU administration to expel the student.

The victim’s parents accompanied their child to the Quezon City Anonas Police Station where they filed a report of the incident, Chief Supt. Joselito Esquivel told The Manila Times.

Esquivel did not give further details due to the sensitivity of the case.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) said it was willing to intervene and investigate the incident but was waiting for the involved parties to come forward.

Taekwondo Olympian and Makati Rep. Manuel Monsour del Rosario, in an apparent swipe at the boy’s parents said: “Your son is a FAILED representation of our beautiful sport,” said del Rosario.

Del Rosario said the parents were to share in the responsibility of the “hideous and unacceptable” incident.

“Every aspect of the viral video was hideous, weak, and unacceptable,” said Del Rosario, the only non-Korean who made it to the Taekwondo Hall of Fame.

“None of us are perfect. We’ve all made our mistakes and should not judge people loosely. But to the parents of the bully, let’s be very clear here. This is as firm a judgement as you will ever get from me,” said the 1988 Seoul Olympics veteran.

Del Rosario then urged all parents who allowed or encouraged their children to learn martial arts to take in a few lessons about the incident.

“Raise your children better. Let’s all raise our children to be better. Let’s raise our sons, particularly those in the martial arts, to be good men,” he said. WITH A REPORT FROM NEIL JAYSON N. SERVALLOS
