Rooms to grow
Focusing on providing best-in-class accommodations and hospitality experience to budget travelers, ZEN Rooms Philippines has been aggressively expanding its business, heating up the competition among the industry major players with its rapid expansion.
Boasting of approximately 3,000 fully-serviced hotel rooms and apartments in over 100 properties under its management, the budget hotel chain is now the biggest hotel franchise in the Philippines, overtaking international hotel chain Red Planet and local leader Go Hotels.
Founded in 2015, ZEN Rooms is a budget hotel brand backed by German conglomerate Rocket Internet SE, of Germany, the company behind FoodPanda.com, the largest food delivery in Asia, online shopping sites Zalora and Lazada. It currently serves countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong and Sri Lanka.
With the Philippines as its fastest growing market, its growth has far exceeded internal projections.
The company’s growth can be attributed to its sound strategy of taking over existing rooms in existing buildings such as condominiums and hotels and re-branding them, instead of constructing new properties from the ground-up.
Another strategy they employ is collaborating with partner independent hotels to provide management services and, at the same time, increase its occupancy all year-round. After improving the efficiency of their partner hotels, these room accommodations are then sold on the company’s website.
By doing these, it does not only increase the efficiency, but it also lowers the operational cost, allowing the budget hotel chain to push the prices so that customers get the value for their money, while providing comfort and convenience for travelers and staycationers.
“We can say with certainty that this is where the industry is heading: there is great demand for hotels that provide quality accommodations at a budget in a market where there is little in between five-star hotels and amateur AirBNBs,” says ZEN Rooms Philippines country manager Benjamin Nicolas.
The budget hotel brand also introduced another innovation, the ZEN Homes, which provides short-term stays in fully-serviced apartments. Located in high-traffic business districts, ZEN Homes have hotel-like amenities such as swimming pools, spas and gyms to the budget market.
Eyeing repeat customers, ZEN Rooms anchors its business on its unparalleled expertise in hospitality, backed with decades of experience and best-in-class practices.
