MILO RIVERA ROARS TO AUTOCROSS WIN
Multi-titled slalom and karting champion Milo Rivera of Petron ascended to the top of the leader board with a superb win in the recent Autocross held at Santa Rosa, Laguna, last weekend.
Rivera’s crafty handling of his old school Toyota Starlet allowed him to dominate the tough competition and remain on top of the championship standings.
“It really feels good that we were able to win again after months of challenges,” said the happy Rivera after the race. “We came in prepared and got to fix a lot of the issues lingering with our car. We are just very blessed that we came away with a victory this time.”
Rivera had to fight the father and son team of Carlos and Anton Iñigo along with defending champion Danby Yaptinchay. Carlos had a slipping clutch in his Mark Young Racing Honda Civic CRX and couldn’t post good times with it. Iñigo ran only two heats and took the Novice division win again for the seventh straight time. He lent his car to his dad Carlos and sat out the rest of the day.
Danby took the All 4WD class and was generous enough to lend his powerful Mitsubishi Mirage 4WD to Carlos. In the end, there was only 0.2 second that separated the Rivera and the older Anton for the top prize.
“We never thought for a single second that it was going to be a walk in the park. And true enough, they mounted a late charge which proved to be very dramatic,” added Rivera. “I hope we could continue this way in order to clinch the Slalom Championship this Sunday.”
Rivera and the younger Anton are expected to collide again in the penultimate Slalom Championship today. The final Autocross race will also be the determining contest as to who will take the championship.
