Facebook takes down ‘spam’ accounts in PH

FACEBOOK shut down a “spam network” in the Philippines, including some pages that were identified as being supportive of President Rodrigo Duterte because “they violated the social networking site’s spam and authenticity policies by encouraging people to visit low quality websites that contain little substantive content and are full of disruptive ads.”

In its blog post, Facebook said it took down 95 pages and 39 accounts, some of which shared political and entertainment content.

Some of the pages that were known to be pro-Duterte were also removed: Duterte Media, Duterte sa Pagbabago BUKAS, DDS, Duterte Phenomenon and DU30 Trending News.

“This takedown is a small step in the right direction, and we will continue working to find and remove more bad content,” Facebook said. LISBET K. ESMAEL
