Con-com spox seeks Senate seat

The spokesman of the Consultative Committee (Con-com) which was tasked by President Rodrigo Duterte  to draft the government’s proposed federal charter,  will be seeking a Senate seat to push for federalism.

Conrado “Ding” Generoso said he would be filing his certificate of candidacy for senator on Tuesday under the Katipunan Ng Kamalayang Kayumanggi political party.

“Today, I and my party mates in the Katipunan Ng Kamalayang Kayumanggi, a political party duly accredited by the Comelec and allied with the Bagong Sistema Bagong Pag-asa movement, are taking this cause to the people through the forthcoming electoral exercise,” he said in a Viber message to reporters.

“I am filing today my certificate of candidacy for the Senate under the Katipunan Party,” he added.

Generoso also said he would no longer act as spokesperson for the Con-com.

Aside from pushing for federalism, Generoso said his platform would also focus on system change, and the federal constitution drafted by the Con-com which was led by retired Chief Justice Reynato Puno.

“We will be campaigning on this issue alone—so that Filipinos will know the change we need to make this country better,” the senatorial aspirant said.

“We are bringing the Puno draft federal constitution to the polls in line with what the President said in his SONA (State of the Nation Address) — that he is confident that ‘the people will stand behind us when we bring the draft constitution to them,’” he added.  /muf
