423,000 households hit by power interruptions
ABOUT 430,000 customers of Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) were hit by power interruptions because of Typhoon Ompong.
“Currently, due to the effects of Typhoon Ompong, around 430,000 customers are affected by service interruptions across our franchise area as of 10 a.m.,” Meralco spokesman Joe Zaldarriaga said on Saturday.
Certain areas in need of restoration work were inaccessible because of strong winds and floods, he said.
Zaldarriaga gave assurances that Meralco continues to work 24/7 to respond to all customer concerns.
“The safety of our customers and crew are of utmost importance and we will continue to focus all our efforts on restoring power to customers and areas affected by outages,” he added.
Meanwhile, the typhoon has cut off power in several provinces in North Luzon.
The National Electrification Administration said these provinces are:
Apayao
Cagayan
Kalinga
Quirino
Ifugao
Nueva Vizcaya
Mt. Province
Benguet
Baguio City
Ilocos Sur
Ilocos Norte
Abra.
Parts of Pangasinan, La Union, Isabela, Nueva Ecija, Aurora and Tarlac are also without power.
