MMDA raises blue alert ahead of ‘Ompong’

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) raised a blue alert status on Friday as it gears up for the possible onslaught of typhoon “Ompong.”

MMDA Chairman Danilo Lim assigned 700 personnel from different agencies to provide emergency services during and after the typhoon as he ordered responders from the Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDDRRMC) to be on standby.

With storm signal number 1 declared in Metro Manila, the 17 Metro Manila local government units are implementing disaster preparedness measures in their respective localities.

The MMDA stationed rescue vans, emergency boats, military trucks, ambulances, rubber boats, fire trucks, manlifts; life vests, chain saw, and mobile pumps at the MMDA’s Metrobase Command Center and other emergency stations at the following locations:

• EDSA-Roxas Boulevard

• EDSA-Ortigas

• EDSA-Orense

• EDSA-Timog

• C5-Libis

• Commonwealth-Tandang Sora;

• and Nagtahan in Sta. Mesa, Manila.
