Police to forward findings on erring lawmen to human rights commission

THE Philippine National Police (PNP) will forward its findings on erring policemen to the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) to determine the appropriate charges to be filed against them.

Chief Supt. Dennis Siervo, head of the PNP Human Rights Affairs Office, said Director General Oscar Albayalde would sign the report, which would serve as evidence, along with a video.

Siervo told The Manila Times that the PNP action against its own was part of the organization’s “internal cleansing.”

The CHR has no prosecutorial powers and can only investigate alleged rights violations committed by state forces and recommend the filing of charges. DEMPSEY REYES
