VICE President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo called on the public to emulate the country’s heroes amid the ongoing challenges to democracy.

“Our history has witnessed a lot of struggles, and our heroes showed what it means to be a Filipino: never hesitating to put life on the line for the greater good. Their courage, dedication and love of country are the basic foundation of the freedom we enjoy today. Their heroism is important, especially now that our democracy is being challenged,” Robredo said in Filipino in her message during the commemoration of National Heroes’ Day on Monday.

“Our heroes are our model in answering the call of the times to fight for our country,” Robredo said.

Robredo also paid tribute to modern day heroes, including the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), who sacrifice being with family to earn enough for the family’s welfare and the soldiers who risk their lives to ensure the country and the public’s safety.

“We join the nation in praying for their safety,” Robredo said. LLANESCA T. PANTI
