Chinese suspect swallows flash drive to hide evidence
A Fujian Province man suspected of skimming personal data online stealthily swallowed a USB flash drive in an attempt to hide the evidence from arresting officers. However despite his best efforts, he couldn’t hide it from an X-ray.
The man surnamed Chen was taken into custody on suspicion of running a ring of data mining scammers through Trojan malware in 2017.
As police descended on his hideout, Chen first pretended to throw something out of the window—then threatened to jump from it. During the fiasco, police said he had snatched up the flash drive from a computer and gulped it down.
“The air-conditioner was on, but the windows were open. This means he was always prepared to throw evidence out of the window,” an official said.
While in custody, Chen underwent interrogations—even ate meals—all without giving away his secret data deposit.
“We all know how it feels to hold in a bowel movement. He is a really tenacious guy,” an official later said.
It was only during a police-ordered medical exam that doctors took an X-ray and spotted the disk sitting in his stomach, media reported.
It was not reported if he was charged or if (and how) the flash drive was recovered. GLOBAL TIMES
