Scarborough Tamil street fest returns
5th annual Tamil Fest is back in Scarborough
The largest Tamil street festival of its kind outside the Indian subcontinent, Scarborough’s Tamil Fest returns for a fourth year on August 25-26, 2018, on Markham Road, between Passmore and McNicoll avenues.
Organized by the Canadian Tamil Congress (CTC), this year promises to have more extravagant displays of Tamil culture and cuisine that highlight the multiculturalism of the Ontario city.
Last year, crowds exceeded 200,000 people and included Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mayor John Tory. This year promises to be bigger and better drawing thousands of people from North America. Tamil Fest is a unique platform showcasing traditional and modern Tamil culture, cuisine, arts and entertainment.
The festival, which will include more than 20 food vendors, various booths, amusement rides, performances, vintage car exhibits and street performances, Â kicks off on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. with words from Mayor John Tory and other local officials in attendance.
