LPA, 2 tropical storms enhancing monsoon rains over Luzon—Pagasa
A low pressure area (LPA) and two tropical storms will continue to enhance monsoon rains over Luzon on Tuesday, the state-run weather bureau said.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), the LPA is 760 kilometers (km) east-northeast of Basco, Batanes as of 6 a.m. and is unlikely to develop into a tropical depression.
“It has low chances of developing into a tropical depression but we will continue to monitor and issue an advisory as needed,” weather specialist Shelly Ignacio said.
Severe Tropical Storm “Leepi” was located 1,775 km east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon with maximum winds of 90 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 115 kph.
It is unlikely to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as it moves northward at 25 kph.
Tropical Storm “Bebinca”, which is also outside PAR, was last seen 810 km west northwest of Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.
It packs winds of 65 kph and gusts of 80 kph as it slowly moves towards the east southeast direction.
Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales and Bataan will continue to experience moderate to occasional heavy monsoon rains with possible flooding and landslides.
Metro Manila, Occidental Mindoro, Calabarzon, and the rest of central Luzon will have occasional scattered rains and thunderstorms, also due to the southwest monsoon.
Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon make up Calabarzon.
The southwest monsoon will also bring partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms over the rest of Luzon.
Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
