Former Quezon village chair nabbed for illegal gun possession

LUCENA CITY – Police arrested a former village chair in Guinayangan town in Quezon province for illegal possession of firearm early Monday.

Senior Supt. Osmundo de Guzman, Quezon police director, said authorities armed with search warrant, arrested Cornelio Quina, 68, former chair of Barangay Villa Hiwasayan during a raid at his house at 5:15 a.m.

Quina yielded an unlicensed caliber .45 Colt 1911 pistol, two magazines and nine bullets.

Police said concerned villagers tipped off the police on the illegal firearm.

The raid was part of the police anti-criminality campaign dubbed “Oplan Salikop.”

Quina was detained at the Guinayangan police jail facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition under Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition. /cbb
