Lacson says ‘cremation’ awaits Cha-cha at Senate
Senator Panfilo Lacson believes the proposed Charter change will only be “cremated” at the Senate, but the Consultative Committee (Con-com) says a “phoenix” will rise from the ashes.
“From the ashes, the phoenix rises,” Con-com spokesperson Ding Generoso said in a statement to reporters on Thursday.
Generoso was responding to Lacson’s remark that the proposed federal Constitution crafted by the 22-member Con-com “is just waiting to be cremated.”
“Right now the proposed Cha-cha is just waiting to be cremated,” Lacson said at the weekly Kapihan sa Senado forum on Thursday.
But for Generoso: “You cannot kill an idea whose time has come.”

While Malacañang has expressed support for the draft federal Constitution, the Senate, according to Lacson, appears to be solid against the proposal.
“Solid ang Senado na hindi kami papasok sa isang cause of action. Meaning hindi kami gagawa ng aksyon na magkakaroon ng oportunidad na kekwestyunin sa Supreme Court at ‘di na kami makaatras,” Lacson said. /muf
