‘Red’ rainfall alert up in 3 areas as ‘Josie’ approaches Philippine Sea

A “red” rainfall alert was raised in Cavite, Batangas, and Bataan because of heavy monsoon rains enhanced by tropical depression “Josie” as it moved towards the Philippine Sea on Sunday, the state-run weather bureau said.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said this meant flooding was expected in these provinces.

An “orange” alert is up in Metro Manila, Zambales and Laguna, which means floods are a threat to these areas.

Rizal is under yellow alert, which means flooding is possible in low-lying areas.

As of 5 p.m., Josie was 330 kilometers (km) north-northeast of Basco, Batanes, packing winds of 55 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 65 kph.

It is moving north-northeast at 25 kph over and will likely exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) between Sunday night and Monday morning.

Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal 1 has been lifted in previously affected areas.

However, Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Central Luzon, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon and Mimaropa will experience scattered to widespread monsoon rains for the rest of the day.

Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon make up Calabarzon while Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan make up Mimaropa.

Pagasa advised the public to take appropriate action and coordinate with the disaster risk reduction management councils for possible flooding and landslides. GLEE JALEA
