Beermen go for the kill vs Aces in Game 4
Reigning champion San Miguel Beer aims to finish off Alaska who’s determined to forge a sudden-death duel in Game 4 of their best-of-five semifinals showdown tonight in Season 43 Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Game starts at 6:30 p.m.
June Mar Fajardo said they should stick to the strategy and be more explosive and aggressive to ward off the Aces’ onslaught.
“We have to follow the coaches’ game plan and then have a little bit of adjustment. Last night, we struggled and I guess our energy was not enough. So we need to play with more energy this time. We need to have a good start.”
The 6’11, four-time Most Valuable Player Fajardo tallied 18 points and 15 rebounds, while import Renaldo Balkman had 28 points and 11 rebounds in their 104-125 loss to the Aces in Game 3.
Despite the defeat, San Miguel Beer is still leading the series, 2-1.
“It’s a wake up call for us, because it is an opportunity that we cannot put to waste. I told them that we do not need another conference to recover, to recharge and to regroup. We are still in a position that have an advantage,” said San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria.
“It looks like that we have a twice-to-beat now so we don’t want this put to waste.”
But Alaska is bent on prolonging the series to a sudden death Game 5.
“It just feels like that it was one of our days. Our opponent is very tough, but we got one and we needed to get one. Now, we have another chance,” said Alaska coach Alex Compton.
Vic Manuel finished with 24 points and six rebounds from while import Diamon Simpson posted 21 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks in Game 3.
