‘Inday’ now a tropical storm, to dump rain in most of Luzon—Pagasa
TROPICAL depression “Inday” has intensified into a tropical storm and will continue to enhance monsoon rains in most parts of Luzon, the state-run weather bureau.
As of 7 a.m., Inday was 8400 kilometers (km) east-southeast of Basco, Batanes, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
It is packing winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 80 kph and is almost stationary.
Inday is the ninth tropical cyclone to enter the country this year and the third for July alone, weather services chief Esperanza Cayanan said in a briefing.
“It is not expected to make landfall but it is forecast to only exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Saturday morning. It may still enhance the southwest monsoon which will continue to bring rains in the country in the coming days,” Cayanan said.
Monsoon rains will continue over Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, Bataan, Zambales, Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands.
The southwest monsoon will also bring occasional rains over Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.
Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Residents living in low-lying and mountainous areas are advised to take appropriate actions against flooding and landslides.
Due to the inclement weather, Central Luzon and the rest of the eastern and northern section of Luzon will have rough to very rough coastal water conditions while the rest of Luzon will have moderate to rough. Visayas and Mindanao will then have moderate coastal waters, Pagasa said. GLEE JALEA
