‘Gardo’ slightly weakens but monsoon rains to continue over Luzon, Visayas–Pagasa
TYPHOON “Gardo” (international name: Maria) slightly weakened as it continued to head northwest at 30 kilometers per hour (kph), the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said on Tuesday.
As of 5 a.m., Gardo was 760 kilometers (km) east of Basco, Batanes with weaker winds of 170 kilometers per hour (kph) and gusts of 210 kph.
The state-run weather bureau said the typhoon would enhance monsoon rains over Luzon, particularly Metro Manila, Palawan, Mindoro, Romblon, Zambales, Pampanga, Cavite, Bulacan, Batangas, and Bataan.
The rest of Luzon and Visayas will have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms because of the southwest monsoon.
Flash floods or landslides are possible because of light to moderate to at times heavy rain.
No tropical cyclone warning signals were raised but a yellow rainfall warning was issued over Zambales and Bataan, which means that there is flooding in low lying areas.
The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers caused by localized thunderstorms.
Gardo is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on Wednesday morning, Pagasa said. GLEE JALEA
