SOME local government units (LGUs) announced the cancellation of classes in parts of Luzon on Monday because of the threat of floods from the heavy rain spawned by a typhoon that entered the Philippines earlier in the day.
The announcement comes as Typhoon “Maria,” categorized as a “super typhoon” by the US Joint Typhoon Warning Center, swept into the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was renamed “Gardo,” packing 185-kilometer per hour winds (kph) that would enhance the southwest monsoon over Luzon and the Visayas.
As of posting time, classes are suspended in:
Metro Manila:
Marikina City – all levels (public and private)
Muntinlupa City – all levels (public and private)
Parañaque City – all levels (public and private)
Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR):
Abra – all levels (public and private)
Region 3 (Central Luzon):
Balagtas, Bulacan – all levels (public and private)
Region 4-A (Calabarzon)
Cavite
Bacoor – all levels (public and private)
Dasmariñas – all levels (public and private)
Rizal
Binagonan – all levels (public and private)
Cainta – all levels (public and private)
Morong – all levels (public and private)
