Typhoon expected to enter PH on Monday — Pagasa

A TYPHOON was spotted outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was forecast to enter the country on Monday, the state-run weather bureau said on Friday.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa), “Maria” (international name) was 1,965 kilometers (km) east of Southern Luzon as of 9 a.m., packing strong winds of up to 125 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 155 kph.

It is expected to move north-northwest at 10 kph.

“We are expecting that this typhoon will enter PAR on Monday morning, although it is unlikely to make landfall in the country. It will only enhance the southwest monsoon or ‘habagat’ in some portions of Southern Luzon,” weather specialist Ezra Bulquerin told The Manila Times.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Western Visayas, Zamboanga peninsula, and the provinces of Palawan and Mindoro.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers because of localized thunderstorms, Pagasa said.
