Laoag City places 2nd runner-up

The City of Laoag, the capital of Ilocos Norte, was adjudged 2nd runner-up for the 2018 Top Philippine Model City.

The province’s political, commercial and industrial hub and the location of the Ilocos Region’s busiest commercial airport, Laoag City, also bagged the Emergency/Disaster Management Award. It was given to Laoag City because city activates disaster response plan to ensure preparedness during calamities in coordination with the different government organizations. With 26 projects for disaster preparedness/mitigation—from anti-plastic ordinance and advocacy campaign on waste segregation; to search and rescue trainings and monthly proficiency tests/exercises; and contingency plans, suitability of evacuation centers and road repair and drainage rehabilitation – the city is truly prepared for rescue operations, pre-emptive evacuation and relief operation.
