‘Ambush’ ruled out in Samar misencounter — military official
THE Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Sunday ruled out that the mistaken encounter in Samar last week was an “ambush,” with the results of an ongoing investigation expected to be out this week.
“All the elements of an ambush are not present but…that is the point of view only of the [Philippine] Army,” Lt. Gen. Rafael Valencia, the AFP Inspector General, told reporters in an interview.
Valencia’s statement came days after Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Oscar Albayalde claimed that the misencounter between the soldiers and police in Barangay Sta. Rita was an ambush that resulted in the deaths of six policemen. DEMPSEY REYES
