BSP warns public against fake papers
THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Thursday warned the public not to deal with scammers issuing false central bank-issued documents.
These include loan documents, deposit certificates and fund-transfer papers, which the central bank said in a statement were provided to “individuals, corporations or institutions” by scammers “pretending to be authorized BSP officials.”
According to the Bangko Sentral, scammers would claim that these documents will facilitate financial transactions favoring the recipients in exchange for private personal or corporate information, and subject to charges.
It emphasized that it neither issues or guarantees commercial documents or products—banking forms, fund transfer orders, and certificates of deposit— nor randomly transacts with individuals, corporations or institutions.
The Bangko Sentral “only deals with authorized or accredited counterparties, mostly central bank-supervised institutions, duly-recognized partners, and appropriately contracted suppliers or service providers,” it said.
The central bank tells the public to be wary of documents with imitations of the BSP seal, logo, and official-looking document formats; forged or digitally copied signatures of its officials, employees or consultants; and alleged central bank products, services, or partnership agreements offered by BSP-connected individuals or establishments.
“For your protection, do not believe claims of unexpected monetary gain,” it said.
The public should report such claims or activities to the BSP Financial Consumer Protection Department.
