Policeman arrested for extorting money from public transport drivers in Pasig

A POLICEMAN was arrested in Pasig City on Thursday morning for allegedly extorting money from public transport drivers, according to a report from the intelligence task force of the Philippine National Police (PNP).

SPO1 Adonis Corpuz, assigned to the Traffic Management Unit of the Eastern Police District (EPD), was arrested at about 8:30 a.m. at a convenience store in Rosario following an entrapment operation in which he received marked money amounting to P1,000 from a driver of a UV Express, according to the Counterintelligence Task Force (CITF).

The arrest of Corpuz stemmed from a complaint by Claudio Homicillda, a terminal dispatcher, who said that the policeman was extorting P1,000 as protection money every 15th and 30th of the month from UV  Express drivers at the Lucky Gold terminal in Rosario, Pasig City.

Homicillda said Corpuz also allegedly harassed and threatened PUV drivers if they failed to pay him.

The same report said Corpuz also extorted P500 weekly at the Habal-Habal Terminal in Pasig.

Corpuz is now under CITF custody for documentation and eventual filing of appropriate criminal and administrative cases. ROY NARRA
