A motor banca carrying 28 passengers ran aground near Cagban Port in Boracay Island Saturday night, a belated report from the Philippine Coast Guard said.
All passengers were all able to swim back to the shoreline of Cagban Port with the help of authorities during search and rescue operation.
Investigation showed that motor banca “Corolan 888” ran aground more or less 50 meters away from Cagban Port in Barangay Manoc-manoc, Boracay Island, Malay, Aklan.
According to Joseph Anota, skipper of the boat, while on docking maneuvering at approximately 50 meters away from the shoreline of Cagban Jetty Port, they encountered big waves and strong winds which cause the motor banca to drift and ran aground.
A passing motor banca Mermaid 3 tried to tow the vessel but to no avail due to unfavorable weather condition.
