The Philippine National Police (PNP) Responders rode on an explosive second quarter performance and streaked to their fourth straight win with a 98-50 drubbing of the GSIS Furies in the 2nd UNTV Cup Executive Face-Off held over the weekend at the Pasig City Sports Center.
With Joel de Mesa at the helm, the Responders erased a 20-23 deficit in the first quarter by outscoring the Furies, 28-7, to take a commanding 48-30 lead at halftime.
They were never threatened from thereon as Anthony Padua, Ireneo Dalogdog, Philip Gil Philips, and Israel Dickson joined the scoring spree, leading the Responders to their most lopsided win so far in the tournament presented by UNTV through its president and CEO Daniel Razon.
Making up for the absence of Joshua Alejando, De Mesa tallied 16 points, Daglogdog and Padua chipped 15 points while Dickson and Philips had 13 points as the Responders stayed unbeaten in the tournament for public servants.
Meantime, Court Administrator Midas Marquez hit a huge three midway in the second quarter to help power the Judiciary Magis to an 81-41 thumping of the Malacañang-Philippine Sports Commission for its third win in four games.
The loss was the third straight for the Kamao who sorely missed the absence of Special Assistant to the President Bong Go.
Joey Yabut, who capped the team’s big second quarter run with a completed three-point play, led the Magis with 19 points while Marquez added 12.
