Saso shines in Thunderbird International Junior Tournament
Filipino-Japanese golfer Yuka Saso earned her first American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) title with a three-stroke victory in the Thunderbird International Junior Tournament (TIJT) held last May 25 to 28 at the Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The 16-year old Saso punched in 67, 72, and 70 for a three-day total of 209 aided by 14 birdies and an eagle after 54 holes in regulation.
The 2018 Philippine Ladies Open champion bested Americans Brooke Seay, Rachel Heck, Sadie Englemann, and Yealini Noh, who all finished with identical 212s for a four-way tie at No.2.
Gina Kim of North Carolina and Steph Kyriacou of Australia, with 213 aggregates, were tied at the sixth and seventh positions.
Ashley Menne of Arizona finished eighth with 214 followed by Sarah-Eve Rheaume of Canada at 10th with 215.
Pierceson Coody of Plano, Texas, took the boy’s title in a two-hole sudden-death playoff at 6-under-par 204.
Saso has also won the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour last January and the Philippine Amateur Stroke Play and Match Play title last year.
