16.3% of midterm poll ballots printed – Comelec

MANILA, Philippines — More than 16 percent of the 72 million ballots for midterm polls have been printed on Tuesday, Commission on Elections (Comelec) chair George Erwin Garcia said on Tuesday.

Garcia said that of the 72,107,420, a total of 11,780,626 have been printed, accounting for 16.34 percent of the ballots.

He also noted that the Comelec is now reaching its target average of 1.8 million ballots daily.

“So far, so good,” Garcia said in a chance interview in a hotel in Manila where training of poll worker takes place.

The Comelec resumed the printing of ballots on Jan. 27.

The printing process of Comelec first began on Jan. 6 but has since been delayed thrice due to Supreme Court’s temporary restraining orders which compel the poll body to add the names of senatorial aspirants it previously declared as nuisance candidates.

In line with this, the printers of the National Printing Office helped South Korean election systems provider Miru to print the 72 million ballots to reach the April 14 deadline.
