PBA: Eastern’s Steven Guinchard finds new weapon in four-point shot
MANILA, Philippines—Eastern sniper Steven Guinchard was all smiles after the squad’s win over Converge in the 2024 PBA Commissioner’s Cup at Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday.
The Hong Kong squad squeaked past the FiberXers, 117-106 for a 2-0 start and Guinchard also seemed to have found his rhythm in the PBA—particularly, in the four-point area.

“It felt good,” said a beaming Guinchard, pertaining to his success in the four-point area.
“Especially when I looked back at my teammates and seeing them all celebrate and being happy for me, that made me want to make even more of those four-point shots. Seeing the whole team being together like that makes me want to make even more… and there’s more coming!”

Guinchard played sparingly in just 18 minutes but he made the most out of his 18 minutes of action.
Guinchard scored 14 points built on two made four-pointers and two triples. To add even more dazzle to his stat line, he missed just one basket overall for a waxing hot 80 percent shooting clip.

After finding success in the controversial four-point area, the 6-foot-5 guard understood how the newly implemented weapon could be a double-edged sword.
“I think it’s a good thing when it goes your way,” said the French-Taiwanese swingman.
“If the opponent starts making four-point shots then it’s definitely not good for you. It goes quick, if you make a couple of four-point shots then you can kill the game pretty quick and you can also come back pretty quick so that changes everything,” he added.
Guinchard hopes he can make more of those lethal four-pointers on Wednesday when Eastern squares up against Rain or Shine at the same venue.
