PBA Finals: Ginebra braces for toughest game of the series yet
As much as it was a relief to finally get a win in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals, Barangay Ginebra coach Tim Cone doesn’t see it as a meaningful outcome.
At least not yet.
“This one won’t mean much if we don’t get the one on Sunday,” said Cone as the Gin Kings look to even their championship tussle with the TNT Tropang Giga when Game 4 tips off at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Ginebra avoided a dreaded 0-3 hole two nights earlier, turning the tables on TNT with its own defensive stand that translated into an 85-73 win. And with the way the series has been played, the team that forces the other to throw more bricks may have the best chance at winning.
PBA Finals: LA Tenorio spells difference for Ginebra
MANILA, Philippines—LA Tenorio may just be what Ginebra needed to turn things around against TNT in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.
Tenorio did not play in the first two games of the series but got the start in Game 3 and made a big difference for the Gin Kings in their breakthrough victory on Friday.
“We started LA just to lengthen our rotation and I thought he did a tremendous job… I thought that was a real change for us that helped,” said Ginebra coach Tim Cone after preventing the Tropang Giga from taking a 3-0 series lead.
PBA Finals: Ahanmisi thrives off the bench for Ginebra
MANILA, Philippines—Maverick Ahanmisi has no qualms coming off the bench for Barangay Ginebra, especially after playing his best game in the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.
After struggling as a starter in Games 1 and 2 of the finals, Ahanmisi snapped out of his slump and helped the Gin Kings avoid a 0-3 hole against defending champion TNT.
“Personally, I enjoy coming off the bench,” said Ahanmisi after Ginebra’s 85-73 win in Game 3 on Friday.
