Aral program law signed

MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Friday signed a bill to provide an academic support program for students who have failed or marginally passed their exams.

Marcos signed Republic Act No. 12028, or the Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning (Aral) Program, during a ceremony held in the Malacañan Palace.

Under the Aral Program, students would be allowed to take refresher courses during summer breaks, with the following students as priorities:

  • those who are failing in the examinations and tests as assessed and evaluated by the teachers;
  • those whose grades are at or marginally above the minimum level of mastery required in the attainment of Most Essential Learning Competencies
  • those who have returned to school after a furlough

The Senate and House of Representatives approved the final version of the bill last August.
